Magic on Midway!

The Wizarding World Begins in Broomfield

Welcome to our new Halloween-focused page, Magic on Midway! After a decade of doing Christmas lights, we have decided to embark also on a new journey of Halloween decorating with a Harry Potter theme. Come along with us as we bring that magical world to life in our front yard, bringing back so many memories of childhood for us, and hopefully developing a love for the Wizarding World in our children.

New Stuff for 2026

2026 is our first year embarking on a Halloween display. Phil has soooooo many plans for next year and is already starting to order supplies! Over the coming weeks, we will also document the details on each of our elements, much like we’ve done for our Christmas light display, with the hopes that others will be inspired to follow along and make something awesome themselves to bring joy to their communities.

Aragog and the Spiders

Around our front porch is Aragog the Acromantula and his family of spiders. We have spider webs stretched along the garage wall, on the pine tree, and on the ground around Aragog. There are about 30 other spiders hanging around on the webs. When trick-or-treaters get close, Aragog pounces forward towards them, growling.

Mr. Weasley’s Ford Anglia in the Whomping Willow

Phil had grand plans to create the flying car out of foam, including working headlights and taillights, but life got in the way. Fortunately, our awesome neighbors lent us their 1-year-old’s blue wagon car and it actually works quite well and was significantly less effort! Next year should feature a more realistic version, but this works great for year 1!

Hogwarts House Banners in the Great Hall

On the other side of the driveway, we have the first portion of our Hogwarts Great Hall. Each of the 4 Hogwarts houses are represented by a 2×8 foot banner with their house colors and representative image. These are mounted on a massive frame, forming the wall of the Great Hall. Phil spent much of early October painting these and they are a massive and bold sight as you approach the house. We have no clue where we are going to store all of this but that’s a November problem 🙂
